Nutrition Tailored to Your Age: Why Your Needs Change Over Time

“Am I too old for this?” and “Am I too young to bother?” are, oddly enough, the two questions I get asked most often about personalised nutrition — usually within the same week, by people about twenty-five years apart. Both are really asking the same thing: does age come into it at all, or is a supplement just a supplement?

It does come into it, though not quite in the way people expect. So rather than the usual list, I have written this one as a set of answers to the questions I actually get asked across the counter, in the order they tend to arrive.

“Does my body really need different things as I get older?”

Here is the honest version. The nutrients themselves do not change — vitamins and minerals are the same vitamins and minerals at 25 as at 65. What changes is everything around them: what you eat, how you sleep, how much you move, how much of the day is spent sitting in front of a screen, and what you would like to feel different about.

That is a less dramatic answer than “your body transforms every decade”, and it is the useful one. Somebody training four times a week has a different set of priorities from somebody who has just come off a fortnight of hotel breakfasts and late meetings. Age is often a decent shorthand for those differences, but it is the shorthand, not the thing itself.

“So what does actually shift?”

Mostly the goal. When I ask people what they would like to support, the answers cluster in a way that is hard to miss:

  • In your twenties and thirties, it is usually energy and focus through a long day, or supporting an active lifestyle around training and sport.
  • Through your forties, skin, hair and nails come up far more often, alongside the same energy question — but now with a busier diary attached to it.
  • From your fifties onward, the phrasing changes: people talk less about a specific goal and more about looking after themselves properly for the long run.

None of that is a rule, and I have met plenty of people who sit nowhere near their own decade on that list. It is simply the pattern in the conversations, and it explains why the same generic tub rarely suits two people the same way. I have written more about that in why average supplements may not fit your life.

“How does a formula take any of that into account?”

This is where Bioniq GO does something a shelf cannot. Instead of asking you to guess which tub matches your stage of life, it asks you. You take the free Wellness Assessment — a few minutes of questions about your lifestyle, your diet, your routine and what you are hoping to support. No blood test, no appointment.

Your answers then match you to one of 40 formulas, built from up to 23 science-backed nutrients in a single daily dose. It comes as premium Swiss granules rather than pills, and it is vegan-friendly. Bioniq was founded in London in 2019, and its personalised nutrition business is now part of Herbalife.

The part I like, from an age point of view, is that nobody has to declare which category they belong to. You describe your life as it is now, and the matching happens from that.

“Do I need to change it as I go?”

Not on a schedule, no. The prompt to revisit it is a change in your life rather than a change in your birthday — a new job with different hours, taking up running, easing off training after an injury, a diet that has genuinely shifted. Those are the things that move the answers on the assessment, and therefore the formula.

A birthday on its own moves nothing. I mention that because people occasionally treat turning fifty as a signal to overhaul everything at once, which is usually more disruption than benefit. Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle — the routine underneath matters more than the reshuffling.

“Where does the rest of my cupboard fit?”

Alongside, not instead. A personalised daily formula covers the everyday baseline; the more specific things you take for a particular purpose sit around it, and you will find those in targeted nutrition. If you are curious about the longer view, I have also written about Bioniq GO for long-term wellbeing as the years go by.

My suggestion, whichever decade you are in: stop trying to work out what someone your age is supposed to take, and answer honestly about the life you are actually living. That is the input that matters. When you are ready, build your personalised formula with Bioniq GO and let your own answers do the sorting.
