“If the sachet has up to 23 nutrients in it, and my shake already has vitamins in it, am I just doubling up?” That question has come at me from three different directions in the past few weeks, usually from people who are perfectly happy with their morning shake and now wondering whether personalised nutrition makes it redundant — or the other way round.

If your shake is the anchor, take the sachet with it; if your shake moves around, anchor the sachet to something that does not. Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, and both of these work best on top of meals you would have eaten anyway.
